- Development of multiple deficits after a normal prenatal and postnatal period of development.
- Head circumference is normal at birth but growth rate slows between the 5th and 48th months of life.
- Persistent and progressive loss of previously acquired hand skills between the 5th and 30th months of life.
- Development of stereotyped hand movements (hand-wringing and hand-washing)
- Problems with coordination of gait and trunk movements
- Severe psychomotor retardation
- Severe problems with expressive and receptive language
- Loss of interest in social interactions but might develop this interest later in childhood or adolescence.
