Criteria for Panic Attack

Panic attack is defined as a discrete period of intense fear or discomfort, starting abruptly and reaching a peak within 10 minutes.


  1. Palpitations, tachycardia
  2. Sweating
  3. Shaking or trembling
  4. Feeling of choking
  5. Chest pain/discomfort
  6. Nausea, abdominal distress
  7. Dizziness, faintness
  8. Feeling unreal or detached from oneself
  9. Fear of "going crazy" or losing control
  10. Fear of dying
  11. Paresthesias or numbness or tingling sensation
  12. Chills or hot flashes
  13. Sensation or shortness of breaths or smothering.
