QUALITIES AND ATTITUDES OF A GOOD AND EFFECTIVE PSYCHIATRIC NURSE:

• With genuine and caring attitude – the nurse must be true to his or her feelings towards the client. The client must be approach with a genuine, caring attitude.
  
• Self-awareness – the nurse must be also aware to his or her self so he or she can understand also the other’s feeling and emotion thus he or she may be able to approach the assessment matter-of-fact.
  
• Resourceful – the nurse must have the ability to manage daily activities and find ways to produce an alternative for a certain thing that is unavailable.
  
• Sensitive and acknowledge social and cultural diversity of a person – must be knowledgeable and respectful about the health and cultural practices of various ethnic people or racial groups; their beliefs and behaviors.
  

KEEP IN MIND:

• Biologic makeup includes the person’s heredity and physical health.
• Individual are unique.
• There are cultural or ethnic differences in how people respond to certain approach and treatment which must be acknowledged and respected. Culture has the most influence on a person’s health beliefs and behavior.
